COMMUNITY MURALS

For the past 20 years, envisioning and creating murals has become my passion. Taking ideas and inspiration from the community and crafting large-scale pieces of art truly brings me joy. Anytime I can help make art accessible to those who may not normally engage in the arts, I know that I am making a difference in my community.

Crisfield Depot Crab 2021

This artwork of a giant crab measures 30'x 30' and is located on the city dock in Crisfield, MD.  Done with exterior latex paint, this piece is protected with three layers of clear sealer.  The budget for this piece was $1500 and took two weeks to complete.  The City of Crisfield will be responsible for the up keep of the mural.  I will do any touch ups as needed.

Main Street Mural Project 2018

Two  murals were designed and implemented for the beautification of the Main Street area in Crisfield,  MD.  These works were commissioned by both The Greater Crisfield Action Coalition and a local business owner.  Measuring 6'x 32', these works depict crabs dangling from a basket and crab corks cascading down the wall.  The overall budget for these murals was $5000 and took one month to complete.  The media used is exterior latex paint on brick.

WBYC 107.3 Crisfield Community Radio Mural 2016

During a summer art camp at the Somerset County Arts Council, students from k-6th grade were asked to help design, plan and implement a mural for the local radio station. This artwork measures approximately 4 feet by 20 feet long and has been done with exterior latex paint. The budget for this project was approximately $500 and was funded through SCAC.

Woodson Elementary School Mural Project 2010-2016

Woodson Elementary School was remodeled in the early 2000's.  Between 2010 and 2016 many murals have been painted throughout the building.  I enjoyed this project because it allowed me to set the tone of the building.  Bright colors and nautical themes were painted throughout the school, as well as, street signs that help guide the students to their appropriate class.  These murals were created with exterior latex with a budget of roughly $3000 spread out over six years.  Maintenance of the works will be completed by me if needed.

It Takes a Village Mural Project 2010

My first community mural project was in 2010 with a group of after school students enrolled in the program It Takes a Village To Raise Our Children.  The project was to create a mural based on what times were like in Crisfield's past.  Students had to interview residents of the town about what it was like in the "old" days and come up with detail designs.  The mural was placed on the side of the local snowball stand and remained there until new owners bought and repainted the building in 2020.  The project took one month from the planning stage until execution to create.  This project was overseen by the director of the program, Darlene Taylor.
